Carlung Highland Ponies

The first set of pictures were taken in July 2000 during the CHSPC stud visit to Susan and Hugh Wardrop's Carlung Stud, West Kilbride.

As I've said elsewhere, Esme of Armoury, one of the broodmares at Carlung, is pretty close to my ideal pony, she just glows persil white in the ring and you can't help look at her! That's why I had to put up 2 photos!!

The two stallions are Strathmore Valiant and the homebred Brisbane Glen of Carlung (k/a Biff!). The yearling filly, Emma of Carlung, is by Biff and like many of his foals she carries his distinctive colouring - she was 2nd in her class at the Royal Highland Show this year.

The third stallion they had was the great old boy Turin Hill Mark II, who sadly died earlier this year aged 27. However, the good news is that there is a filly foal by him this year (see picture of Flora below), and 3 mares in foal to him for next year (including the filly's mother, Carragh, also pictured), not to mention a string of good ponies around the country sired by him over the years.

These later photos were taken September 2001 on our major stud tour so I have concentrated mainly on youngstock and ponies I didn't take pics of before. First is Islay's filly foal by Biff, then Columbine of Whitefield with filly foal at foot again by Biff. Third pic is Ebony, the newly licenced 2yo son of Valiant out of Esme, and lastly a newer photo of Valiant himself, now sadly a gelding but fortunately Ebony looks set to replace him as stud stallion at Carlung so the lines will continue, mixed with those of the lovely Esme! One to watch I think...
