Hermes

Who was Hermes?

In mythology Hermes was one of the Greek gods and because he was very fast he was the messenger of the gods, He was also the god of a few other things but we shall not discuss those here. He is normally represented as wearing winged sandals. Hermes II (Hermes the Second) was invented at the University of Dundee and he is not from Greek mythology (obviously I hear you say!) but for our purposes he is the messenger of the ordinary people carrying messages from the people and for the people. He is not as fast as the original Hermes although he is too wearing winged sandals.

Later on in time the Romans had Mercury (who crashed every now and then) who too was a messenger for the gods and he too had winged sandals.

Hence the moral lesson of the story. Greeks were the first to invent winged sandals!
