About Hermes
Hermes I is a web based solution for the distribution of email messages to staff and students at the University of Dundee.
There are two versions of Hermes:
- Hermes I is used only for important and urgent messages, or messages which are important and must target a specific group of the likely recipients. Its use is heavily moderated and only permitted in exceptional circumstances. Only staff can submit messages to Hermes I.
- Hermes II was developed in order to allow for the distribution of any messages. It distributes its collection of messages as a single email weekly, aiming to be out on a Monday. Its frequency of distribution outside term time will have to be reviewed. Both staff and students can submit messages to Hermes II.
Hermes II provides users with a facility to create a web page (if they do not already have a page) to provide additional information for their message. All Hermes II messages are published on the web.
Briefly, a few things to note are that it is possible to unsubscribe from receiving messages from Hermes II but not from Hermes I. Anyone entitled to submit messages can do so by logging into the system using the Intranet ID and password. More detailed information can be found on the submit and frequently asked questions sections available from the left hand column. Explicit guidelines for both Hermes I and II are given on the submit section above.
