File Extentions Primer
The scope of this page is to provide just a brief introduction only to the files which are available on this server. All ASCII files can normally be imported by most databases, spreadsheets and worprocessors.
- .csv This is a plain ASCII Comma Delimited file, where its first line has the names of the columns. It can be imported by most databases and spreadsheets. If the first line of the file is deleted then it should be able to imported to older (DOS) databases which may not recognise CSV files.
- .db Borland Paradox database table, (unlikely to have stand alone Paradox tables, if we supply them they will be complete databases in zipped format.
- .mdb Microsoft Access database.
- .pdf Adobe Acrobat file, normally also accompanied by this icon

- .rtf Rich Text Format. These files are written in ASCII and they contain all the necessary code for the formatting. They can be read and saved by most word processors and as such they are the probably the best format for transferring word processed files cross-platform.
- .txt Plain text files ususally referred to as ASCII Plain Text or ASCII Comma Delimited or ASCII Fixed Length. With this extention contents of the file will normally be displayed by the browser.
- .wks Lotus 123 plain spreadsheet. It can also be read by most databases and other spreadsheets.
- .xls Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
