Welcome to the University Court Website
The University Court is the governing body of the University with particular responsibility for the employment of staff and the management and administration of property and finance. The full responsibilities of the Court are set out in the Statement of Primary Responsibilities.
The Court is chaired by a lay member and its membership currently comprises :
- The Chancellor
- The Principal or, in the absence of the Principal, a Vice-Principal
- The Rector
- An Assessor nominated by the Chancellor
- An Assessor nominated by the Rector after consultation with the Students' Association
- The Lord Provost of Dundee City Council or an Assessor nominated by him or her to serve throughout the Lord Provost's term of office
- Two Assessors elected by the Graduates' Council
- Two Professors and two Readers, Senior Lecturers or Lecturers elected from among its members by the Senatus
- Two members of Academic Council elected by the Academic Council
- A member of non-academic staff elected by the non-academic staff
- The President of the Students' Association of the University
- Seven other persons, not holding full-time appointments from Court, as may be co-opted by the Court
Certain senior officers of the University also attend Court meetings but are not members of the Court. The Chairman of the Court is elected by the Court to serve for a period of three years, renewable for one further period of three years.
NB - at its meeting on 14 December 2009, the Court approved changes to the
composition of Court with likely effect from 1 August 2010 - see the
Noticeboard on the intranet for further
details. These changes are subject to Privy Council and Senate approval.
List of Court Members.
Court meets six times per year. Minutes of meetings are deposited in the University Library and a copy is also available in each Department for consultation by members of Academic Staff. Court Minutes from 1993/94 onwards are also accessible from this Website. The agenda for each meeting of the Court is posted on the Noticeboard.
The Court has a number of Standing Committees, some of which have Sub-Committees. In addition it establishes Working Groups and other bodies from time to time, charged with specific and time-limited tasks.
